Leading GPS apps like CalTopo, Gaia, and AllTrails support offline navigation with a paid subscription (starting at $20/year in CalTopo)— just make sure you download the map area in your app before heading out! You’ll be able to follow the route, view waypoints, and track your location even in airplane mode, perfect for navigating through every step of the adventure.

When you purchase a custom GPS map from me, you'll receive two different file formats included in the price: JSON and GPX.

Both files contain the same route and waypoints, but the JSON file is fully optimised for CalTopo and includes my internal folder structure, colour-coding & easy access to detailed trail notes. This is the BEST way to use these maps, but not the only way! The GPX file is more universally compatible and works with apps like Gaia, Garmin & AllTrails, but some of the extra features will be stripped out.

These are complex, custom routes that simply aren’t available in full detail on crowd-sourced GPS platforms— often because no one has hiked my exact "adventure route" before! You'll get details for the best side summits, high trails that bypass boring or busy sections of the route, thrilling via ferrata, hidden viewpoints & other custom route recommendations you won't find anywhere else.

I spent HOURS hand-building every single map in CalTopo after hiking or climbing the route myself (often multiple times!) and gathering extensive feedback from other hikers to present the most complete & accurate final map. These are so much more than a simple track— you're paying for real, detailed route beta guaranteed to elevate your adventure.

For sure! You can edit the daily tracks, add waypoints, and even write your own trail notes to supplement the details I've built into these maps. This is easiest to do in CalTopo on a web browser, but it’s also possible in the CalTopo mobile app or most GPS platforms that support track editing.
